Lockdown – a few thoughts

Romans 12:2 English Standard Version

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

This train of thought began while reading John 1 where “The Word” (Jesus) came to this world, stepped into our physical, corrupted environment and ‘became’ one of us.

Being in “Lockdown” has set me thinking. We are advised to not go out so as not to come into contact with anyone who, or anything that, could contaminate us.

The scripture tells us that we are to be in the world but not ‘of the world‘.

Right now when we go out we are careful how close we get to people. We avoid touching things. We use hand sanitizer. We perhaps even wipe the bar on the shopping trolley. Some of us may eve wear face masks in the hope that might trap the virus. When we get home we wash our hands thoroughly.

So much conscious effort not to be contaminated. Why? Because we might die!

As a Christian, how careful am I not to be contaminated by sin, by the world? Do I make any effort at all to avoid touching things I shouldn’t, to avoid going places unnecessarily, to keep my distance from potential infection?

What do I watch? Read? Listen to?

Then there’s what I talk about. Do I risk polluting others by my words and actions?

Lots to meditate on there.

Philippians 4:8 English Standard Version (ESV)

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
