The Bible

The Bible consists of 66 books in all, unless it is a Catholic version which contain the additional and disputed* books of the “Apocrypha”.

The Old Testament is the Bible of the Jews

The New Testament consists of books written about Jesus and his teachings.

Christians believe that although the books were obviously written by people (Paul mainly, plus Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, James, Peter) there is in the coherent and agreeing message a sense that God, by the Holy Spirit, inspired the writers.

*most Christians would regard the Apocryphal writings as useful for reference but not carrying the same sense of inspiration of the other books.
