Why Jesus?

Was Jesus an historical figure?       Yes, absolutely.

There is more evidence for him than for any other openly accepted figures of his time.

But why believe he was anything other than just a man?

The accounts in the four Gospels from eye-witnesses leave us in no doubt that they believed him to be the Son of God.

The fact that the early followers were prepared to die for their belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus, make it hard to think that they knew it to be a lie.

According to the New Testament, Jesus was sent by God to be the first man to live a perfect life, free of anything which displeased God, to become the perfect sacrifice on behalf of the rest of us?

That really is the crunch, as simple as that, and you may want to stop and click away right now!  But Please Don’t.

The probable reason why you get upset at Jesus being described as “perfect” is simply that you wish that you weren’t flawed.

Letter to the Colossians Chapter 1 verse 15 onwards:-

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.  For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.  And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.  And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.  For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,  and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
