The contradiction of Scottish Independence

Put simply the Scots appear to be conflicted.

To begin with of course, just like the whole of the U.K. there was never a complete consensus in Scotland on leaving the E.U. However we now have a situation in which it seems that a large proportion of those who wanted to remain “in Europe” now wish to leave the United Kingdom.

This is a complete contradiction! The argument goes that the Scots should not be ruled by the British Parliament, they should be free to run themselves. Once that has been achieved they are then happy to be ruled by Brussels. That makes no sense whatsoever.

All those Scots who laid down their lives in the Great War or WW2 must be turning in their graves.

All those Scots who lay down their lives in the Great War or WW2 must be turning in their graves at the thought of walking away from the English in favour of the Germans!

Why Scotland, why?

Bizarrely also of course Scotland has its own assembly. The English don’t even have that! So whilst there are areas in which English M.P.’s have no influence over Scotland, Scottish M.P.’s have a say in the way that England is run. Some might call that greedy.

I know that one can argue that England bled Scotland dry of its oil and natural gas, but right now, as I understand it, Scotland lacks the resources to run as an independent economy.

Still maybe its just sour grapes since, if they break away from the Union, Britain will no longer have any truly great heroes, inventers, sportsmen, being as though they all seem to have been Scots!
