Gender
male and female he created them
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
As a Christian my stance has to be “there we have it”. No amount of argument, even referring to hermaphrodites in the animal kingdom, can avoid this simple statement which is then reiterated throughout scripture. This does not come down to personal opinion, but rather to trust in the scriptures.
Matthew 19:4-6 English Standard Version Anglicised
4 He (Jesus) answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
My only other observation, as a Christian, is that there is an implication here that the Godhead has a female component or attributes if “mankind” / “humankind” are created “in His image“.
Cancelling Women
The current trend towards “cancelling” women is well addressed here.
Homosexuality
Once one has grasped that God created us male and female for amongst other things the procreation of the human race, it isn’t a huge step to realise how he intended us to relate to one another. There’s really no argument to be had. Premier radio provide a great observation on the subject. perhaps as the article says our problem is that we have over sexualised everything. Just flick through some of the program titles on T.V. or through some magazines.
